Flicker: Crazy Afternoon

PRINT ARTICLE

"But," claimed Flicker, "for a film in which the actors are so important, I wanted to make sure that they could deliver each and every line with conviction." The chronological studio shoots augmented the intensity with which the actors and the director went about their work, and none of the shots in the entire six weeks of production allowed them to sit back and relax. "Do you think I'm having fun? I wish I had never started this," cries Andreas in anguish over his abortive robbery attempt, summing up the absurdity of the entire afternoon. Demonstrating how illogically a character can act while still maintaining a sense of realism was one of the challenges facing Florian Flicker and his trio of actors in Der Überfall, and they met it successfully. "The thing I like most about this film," claimed Flicker, "is that they say things they had never told anyone before, the fact they communicate on such a personal and frank level. Men can be like that at times, so affectionate, so helpless, so sick and so obsessed with power. The actual motif, in my opinion, is a men's world. That is also the drama."
