 Austrians at the 66th Cannes Film Festival
The 66th edition of the Cannes festival will present two films coproduced with Austrian support: Claude Lanzmann’s THE LAST OF THE UNJUST (Out of Competition) and Rebecca Zlotowski’s GRAND CENTRAL (Un Certain Regard).  NYON 2013: OMSCH wins Buyens-Chagoll Prize
Edgar Honetschläger’s witty dialogue with his 100-year-old neighbour conquered the festival audience and the jury members: OMSCH, one of the 19 entries to the Visions du réel main competition was awarded the Buyens-Chagoll Prize.
 MORE THAN HONEY wins Lola for Best Documentary
The Swiss-Austrian-German co-production MORE THAN HONEY by Markus Imhoof was awarded the Deutscher Filmpreis for Best Documentary. The alarming documentary on the widespread disappearance of honey bees was coproduced by Vienna based Allegro film, zero one film (Germany) and Thelma Film (Switzerland).
 The Dead and the Living wins Premio Cineuropa
Barbara Albert's feature on a young woman who digs up a family secret by finding out about her grandparents' past during the Nazi period was awarded the Premio Cineuropa at the 14th Lecce Festival del Cinema Europeo.

Best Film and Best Actor Michael Fuith: Markus Schleinzer’s disturbing feature debut Michael focusing on the daily life of a pedophile with his 10-year-old captive was the winner of the Max Ophüls Preis Festival 2012 in Saarbrücken. The Best Actress Award also went to an Austrian co-production: Peri Baumeister convinced the jury as Georg Trakl’s sister Grete in Tabu - The Soul is a stranger on Earth.

 Breathing wins Europa Cinemas Label
Karl Markovics’ debute feature Breathing won the Europa Cinemas Label for the best European Film in Director’s Fortnight. The prize supports European exhibitors to promote and schedule European films at their theatres. In 2009 the Europa Cinemas Label was awarded to another Austrian first feature film: La Pivellina by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel.

Markus Schleinzer’s feature debute Michael will be one of the 20 contenders for the Palme d’Or at the 64th Cannes Festival (May 11 - 21). Austria’s second Cannes entry is Breathing also a first fiction feature by Karl Markoviocs, that will have its premiere in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs.
 Jessica Hausner: Member of the Cannes Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury 2011
Austrian director and producer Jessica Hausner will be part of the Cinéfondation and Short Film Jury at the 64th Cannes festival (11 to 22 May). The jury that comprises Julie Gayet, Corneliu Porumboiu, João Pedro Rodrigues and jury president Michael Gondry will have to select three out of the 16 films featuring in the Cinéfondation section for first, second and third Cinéfondation prize as well as the Short Film Palme d’or.

The line-up for the Venezia 67 film festival has been announced: The Forgotten Space, a Dutch-Austrian co-production by Allan Sekula and Noël Burch will be presented in the Orizzonti-Section. The four Austrian short films shown in the Orizzonti short film competition include: Shadow Cut by Martin Arnold, Mouse Palace by Harald Hund und Paul Horn, The Future will not be Capitalist by Sasha Pirker and Coming Attractions by Peter Tscherkassky.

Ágnes Kocsis’s Pál Adrienn, a Hungarian/Austrian/French/Dutch co-production, was selected the winner of the Fipresci Prize from the Certain Regard line-up at the 2010 Cannes festival.

 Christian Berger wins ASC prize for The White Ribbon
Christian Berger won the top feature film prize for The White Ribbon at the 24th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards. The White Ribbon was the first black-and-white film since The Man Who Wasn’t There (2002) and the first European movie since A very Long Engagement (2004) to be awarded this major distinction for cinematography. Christian Berger is also Oscar-nominated for best cinematography.

 The White Ribbon: FIPRESCI’s Best Film of the Year
At the opening ceremony of the San Sebastián Film Festival, Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon will receive the FIPRESCI Grand Prix 2009 for the Best film of the year. The Grand Prix distinguishes a film from the current season for its overall artistic quality. The White Ribbon, Palme d’or winner 2009, was chosen by 223 critics throughout the world.
